I'm writing a story about Veteran's Day and how my University failed to celebrate it.
Please describe how your university or college celebrated Veteran's Day. What university or college do you attend? Who attended the event? Who hosted the event? How was it celebrated? What time did it happen? If you attended, can you describe your experience? Please respond if you can answer any questions above. It will help me to frame my story more effectively. |

I think what follows happens more than just on Veteran's Day, but any day involving praise for our military, such as during 9/11 remembrances. As a student at Cornell, the administration would hold these remembrance ceremonies calling for peace, solidarity, and cooperation with other nations. Not once did any administrator ever speak the words, "let's support out troops," or "let's support the action our elected representatives have chosen." It is always this latent criticism without actually saying, "Bush needs to go." Most universities are hesitant to support the military...it's almost a knee-jerk reaction.

We ran into the same issue as my school would not allow us to put up yellow ribbons on campus for a support the troops rally that was being sponsored by the College Republicans. They made all these lame excuses about the ribbons getting damaged and who would take care of them being so close to the end of the year. I think that they just did not want to appear supporting that evil Bush and his evil unjustified war (their speaking). Heaven forbid that they actually could look past partisanship and at least support the troops even if they disagreed with the war.
