Why did Jesus say, "blessed are the peacemakers" when his country was occupied by a cruel and oppressive Roman government that tortured and crucified dissident Jews ?

Why did Jesus tell the Jews in Jerusalem to flee Jerusalem instead of defending it against the Romans? Would this be termed appeasement ?

When Rome was torturing and executing Jewish dissenters and overtaxing the Jews, why did Jesus say, love your enemies ? and to pay taxes to Caesar ?

quote:
This thread basically got my blood boiling for many reasons...Here we are debating why Jesus didn't fight the Romans...He didn't fight the Romans, because He didn't come into this world to split up a whole empire..
What do you mean by split up a whole empire ? Are you saying that Jesus should have allowed dissident Jews to suffer under the Romans ? and if He came to not fight the Romans, should we not follow his example and submit to authority, no matter how cruel the authority is ? WOULD JESUS HAVE REBELLED AGAINST THE BRITISH IF BRITAIN RULED IN PALESTINE ?
quote:
He is God incarnate, and the whole reason that Jesus came into this world was to save us from our sin, not to get the Jews out of Roman bondage..
So your saying its more important to have salvation than political freedom ? Could Jesus have both saved people and fought the Romans ?
quote:
Jesus will eventually come back, at which time we do not know, and Israel will be restored. .
Israel would be restored ? why ? Restored to what ?
quote:
Many people thought that Jesus would set up his earthly kingdom the first time He came to earth. However, they were wrong. Jesus came for one reason and one reason only during His first advent...To bear the brunt of the sins of those who would come to Him for salvation..
So again your saying, salvation is more important than political freedom ? Could Jesus have saved people and still fought the Romans ?
quote:
When you read the Sermon on The Mount, beginning with the Beatitudes, you should realize, as a sinner, that you are far beyond accomplishing any of the demands that Jesus makes of those who follow Him. We have to completely deny ourselves for Him...letting go of the sinful desires of this world. .
How do we deny ourselves ? what are sinful desires ? Did Jesus want us to deny our desire to fight the enemy ?
quote:
Therefore, the Sermon on the Mount should make us turn to Jesus for salvation, because we are incapable of meeting those demands..
Yes, salvation is what Jesus came for, but what about doing both salvation and fighting the Romans ? or is salvation everything and resisting the enemy is not even a second option ?
quote:
The Sermon on The Mount is PURE Grace all the way...As a Christian, I have become more sanctified as time goes by, and I am learning to meet the demands in The Sermon on the Mount in God's time..
How are you meeting the demands of Jesus, by loving your enemies ? by not going to war ?
quote:
Looking at Jesus's ministry, He loved all people, but He made high demands of them. .
What demands did Jesus make on people ?
quote:
The Romans, Gentiles, Jews, etc.. etc... all were important to Jesus..
So the Roman rulers were important to Jesus ? IF THE BRITISH RULED PALESTINE, WOULD JESUS HAVE LOVED THE BRITISH ? AND NOT KICKED THEM OUT
quote:
I would not call him a sympathizer of any certain group of people in terms of ethnicity and race...
If He was not sympathetic, why did he say render unto Caesar ?
quote:
.He is a sympathizer to those who are mourning in their sin and realizing that apart from Jesus, they are destined to future torment in Hell..
So those you are apart from Jesus could be Americans, Israelis, Arabs and Romans, right ?
quote:
Jesus Himself said that he didn't come into this world to make peace...He said that He would divide families...Brother against sister, mother against father, daughter against mother, etc... etc..
If Jesus did not come to make peace, why did he not make war ?
quote:
.. Jesus was no pacifist peacemaker. .
If Jesus was not a peacemaker, why did he not encourage war especially on the cruel Romans ?
quote:
He made strict demands of those who would follow Him....If you want to follow Him, you must deny yourself, take up His cross, and be prepared to face persecution from possibly your own family members..
So your saying that Jesus wants a person to carry a cross rather than a gun ? to face persecution rather than kill the enemy ?
quote:
I see all these questions being asked about Jesus...The only place you can find the answers is in The Gospel. And sometimes, the answers won't be there, because Jesus didn't come here to address such problems. Jesus came to confront us all with the most important decision we'll ever make in this life. .
Address the problem of an alien occupying force like the Romans ? was that not a big problem to Jesus ? OR IS SALVATION ALL IMPORTANT AND POLITICAL FREEDOM IS NOT IMPORTANT AT ALL ?
quote:
And as for the government...Romans 13 explains a lot as to why we should submit to the authorities in charge.
SO WE SHOULD SUBMIT TO AN ALIEN OCCUPYING FORCE THAT CRUELLY PERSECUTES AND TORTURES DISSIDENTS ? IF BRITAIN WAS RULING PALESTINE AND IF THE BRITISH WERE AS CRUEL AS THE ROMANS, ARE YOU SAYING WE SHOULD SUBMIT TO BRITISH RULE
