Would you like to win a free trip to ISI's National Leadership Conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on November 5? Are you looking for exposure to ideas you won't hear about in most of your classes? As the summer months approach, ISI is proud to announce the 2005 Summer Reading Program. Please see the following link to download a PDF version of the flyer advertising this contest and feel free to pass this information on to other students: http://www.isi.org/programs/essay/content/summerreading2005.pdf

By participating in this program, you will have the opportunity to explore the relationship between individual liberty and government authority through one of the greatest works on the subject, F.A. Hayek's The Road to Serdom. Hayek demonstrates that the collectivist idea of empowering government with increasing economic control would inevitably lead not to utopia but to the horrors of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

To join the ISI Summer Reading Program, and receive your free copy of The Road to Serfdom, simply send your name and mailing address to members@isi.org by June 20, 2005. Each participant will be required to submit a two to four page essay reflecting on the theme, "Free Enterprise vs. Collectivism: Which philosophy creates a superior economic order?" Submissions will be judged on the basis of originality, grasp of the subject, and overall scholarship. Essays must be postmarked by August 24, 2005.

Papers must be typed (doubled spaced) on 8 ½ x 11 paper (one side only). The prizes for the essay/reading program contest are as follows:

First place: An all expenses paid trip to ISI's National Student Leadership Conference, "Liberty and Order: F.A. Hayek and the Road to Serfdom," at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill on November 5, 2005.

Second place: $100 certificate from ISI Books and a set of ISI's Library of Conservative Classics.

Third place: $50 certificate from ISI Books.

As an added incentive, each completed essay submitted on time will receive a free voucher for one additional title from ISI Books. Also, each participant will have the opportunity to engage in an online discussion forum on the ISI website with other participants from around the country. The online forum will be structured and monitored by ISI staff.

ISI diligently seeks to provide its Campus Representatives with valuable intellectual opportunities such as this one. I encourage you to start your summer off on the right foot, and join this exploration into the writings of the great classical liberal, F.A. Hayek.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at (800) 526-7022, ext. 124, or at: members@isi.org . I join ISI in wishing you an exciting summer!
