Facebook is a way for bored college kids to waste time. That's it.

I would definately have to agree to that as I thought that it would just be myself and those ISI members on my campus. I now face the fifth level of hell as all the dumb groups have started as well as attacks against my ISI group.

Wow. Checking out Brian's and Adam's discussion above... It is possible to make _anything_ sound intellectual, isn't it?

I would like to question whether everything that is different from Western civ as we know/knew it is a decline or merely a change. I think of blogs and sites such as facebook as a positive change, because they keep me in touch with people I would otherwise never have time to contact. Naturally, as I am sure someone will mention, there are also negative consequences - but so it is with everything in the world. At no point has Western civilization, or any civilization, been wholly good.

I would have to agree with Sarah. Facebook is a form of globalization if used correctly. Some students use it, yes, when they are bored, but I have caught up with longtime friends - some of which I would have never been able to find. Also, it is a way of getting the message out efficiently. It is a great form of communication. Technology is something that the world will never be able to keep up with, this is what makes it dangerous. We just need to make sure that we do not misuse the technology we have. The internet was designed for informing people and bringing them together. Instead, however, some are using it for perverted things and need to be stopped. Hopefully the government will be able to do something about the abuse - but it is a hard issue to tackle. Sorry for all of the ranting.
