For those who haven't yet heard, E. Victor Milione, president of ISI from 1953 to 1988, died yesterday. Vic was a great man who overflowed with integrity. At least from the time that I came to know him a few years ago, he preferred to call himself "a man of the West" rather than a conservative, thereby aligning himself more strongly with a particular civilizational and cultural heritage than with an abstract idea. I liked and appreciated that small example of his admirable way of thinking. Vic seemed to be wholly incorruptible.

There would be no ISI without Vic. He will be sorely missed by all of us.

For anyone who's interested, a viewing will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, at Stretch Funeral Home, 236 E. Eagle Rd., Havertown, PA 19083 (610-446-1075). There will also be a viewing before the funeral service, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, at the Church of St. Denis, 2401 St. Denis Lane, Havertown, PA (610-446-0200).

ISI is planning a later, public memorial service in Washington, D.C. I'll post the details when they become available.

See the ISI home page at www.isi.org for a tribute to Vic.
