Will you have the guts and gumption to steer your own children away from higher education if you recognize their limitations, or will you press for the "American ideal" for them as well?

In response to Ann's question, I know of several families who have deliberately encouraged one of their children not to pursue a college degree and instead to develop some other of his or her talents, since that child had already demonstrated a lack of interest in as well as a low capacity for college-level work. In both cases, I think the young person concerned was happier as a result.
