Charles Murray, a recent guest lecturer in ISI's Curran Lecture series, is recently featured in the Wall Street Journal.
Murray, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and author of The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life, argues that earning a bachelor's degree may not be in every case the best use of an individual's time and talents. He suggests a systematic and controversial alternative: certification tests in a wide variety of disciplines, including, among others, criminal justice, social work, and public administration. Such an argument is, perhaps, the practical next step after coming to grips with a story like this recent one in the Atlantic about the difficulties many people face in earning a BA. |
