RE: http://www.firstprinciplesjournal.com/articles.aspx?article=32&theme=home
Tory conservatives (a.k.a. "real conservatives") need to 1. burn any all bridges to Fascists (and fascists), nationalists, and racialists, with whom Tory conservatives have nothing in common 2. realize they are not Whigs (a.k.a. Hamiltonians, "Neoconservatives") 3. realize they are not libertarians, and then make a detente, but not a concordat with the same. 4. discover their roots in Burke and de Maistre, repudiate political thought flowing out the French Revolution, repudiate the earlier "Endarkenment", and, indeed, repudiate the entire modern founding of politics by Machiavelli and Hobbes 5. become Roman Catholics 6. forget the 2008 elections, spend the the year helping to revive the Traditional Mass and Gregorian Chant, and, in the quite of their libraries, sketch out a revival of Tory thought in the coming four years 7. consider real fusionism: with European Christian Democracy. |

A few more suggestions for your list:
1) Bring back the Inquisiton and roast a few Protestants. 2) Join the Pope Benedict XVI in denouncing Galileo. 3) Ignore the fact that Burke, de Maistre, et al. had no influence at all in American political thought until a certain recluse from Mecosta, MI, thrust them upon us in 1953. 4) Hire consultants from Albania and North Korea to develop a new foreign trade policy for the United States. 5) Move to Port William, Kentucky, and forget that the rest of the world exists. And, oh yeah, don't forget this last one: 6) Forget about ever winning another election again, let alone remaining a viable force in American political and cultural life. |
