Whittaker Chambers and Reagan -- very illuminating article. Who was right? -- Prof. Snyder leads to the answer -- both, in complementary fashion. Taking another vantage point, the West is confronted by one challenge after another that could serve to revitalize its historic faith. So far, however, it seems able only to mount sufficient resistance physically and economically to disrupt its challengers. The decline of faith continues and spreads like cancer. Becoming more like international communism and Islamic fascism, the West increasingly muzzles expressions of faith in its core politics. The ultimate outcome of such a course is of course its death. We may ask where is the locus of its faith-filled remnant, and where will the remnant give rise to produce a new faith-filled civilization.
