To bolster your penultimate line of argument, that poesis is ignored, you might look to Aristotle's Poetics where he says: "Poetry is both more philospohical and more serious than history; for poetry speaks rather of what is universally the case, whereas history speaks of particular events"

I am always looking for discussion that links conservatives and art.

I appreciate this article but as I am a conservative and a painter I wonder what possibilities there are besides constructing a narrative.

To be clear, what about still-life painters- that is, painters who's sole focus is painting from direct observation.

Is the only directive to make new stories- what about those who do not make stories?

Reading Mr. Wilson's article warms my heart, and inspires me in the work I do with The Culture Alliance. What he makes reference to in his article is exactly our mission. We aim to end culture's enslavement to politics and foster a culture that values liberty and personal responsibility. We completely eschew the idea that, what we call, the Cultural Influence Professions should be made to serve political ends, whether from the Left or the Right. What we aim to do is encourage and inspire young men and women to take up the Cultural Influence Professions, thereby reforming a culture that is all but enslaved to political ends.

I would hope that CTF, and anyone else come by TCA's site or drop me a line directly at dpcrandall 'at' gmail 'dot' com. If you honor this nation's foundational values, then lets work together on creating a culture that, at the very least, makes room for the expression of those values.

CTF, have a look at my essay "Unleashed from the Exemplars" in American Arts Quarterly; that's the place to start an answer to your question.
