Hello fellow conservatives!
Has anyone read G. K Chesterton or C.S Lewis? Some of my favorite quotes: "Mr. McCabe thinks me a slave because I am not allowed to believe in determinism. I think Mr. McCabe a slave because he is not allowed to believe in fairies" -Chesteron "All healthy men, ancient and modern, Western and Eastern, hold that there is in sex a fury that we cannot afford to inflame; and that a certain mystery must attach to the instinct if it is to continue delicate and sane" -Chesterton and Lewis: "Lust is a weak, poor, whimpering whispering thing when compared with that richness and energy of desire which will arise when lust has been killed" Any other quotes you LOVE? Please post. |

Patrica,
If you haven't found it already, you may wish to visit the American Chesterton Society. They have done a remarkable job promoting Chesterton's thought and work. I enjoy C.S. Lewis too, though I've only read The Abolition of Man and his Narnia series. The former is essential reading for conservatives (especially ones in education). In any case, here are a few of my favorite Chesterton quotes. "What is wrong with the man in the modern town is that he does not know the causes of things...He does not know where things come from; he is the type of the cultivated Cockney who said he likes milk out of a clean shop and not a dirty cow." "The poet only asks to get his head into the heavens. It is the logician who seeks to get the heavens into his head. And it is his head that splits." "Theology is only the element of reason in religion; the reason that prevents it from being a mere emotion." |
