Hello ISI Community,

Here's a question for everyone. Name an academic work that is still used in college classrooms or as citation material in academic publications to this day, even though they have been proven to be a hoax. By "hoax," I mean that the author set out to deceive in order to further a personal or political agenda. Here are some starters:

"Coming of Age In Somoa," Margarette Mead
"People's History of the United States: 1492 to Present," Howard Zinn
"Sexual Behavior in the Human Male," Alfred Kinsey
"Sexual Behavior in the Human female," Alfred Kinsey
"I Rigoberta," Rigoberta Menchu
"Arming America," Michael Bellesiles

Let's get a good, long list going here.

I think it might be useful if a selection of links to material refuting each of these books was posted, so that students who encounter these books in the classroom can readily turn to correct information about them.

Accordingly, I shall initiate threads about each of these titles, with some refutational links in the first post, and invite others to contribute additional links.
