Shakespeare's Secret: The Catholic Imagination in Elizabethan England

Clare Asquith, author of Shadowplay: Hidden Beliefs and Coded Politics of William Shakespeare with Peter Milward author of Shakespeare the Papist
and guest lecturers.

Thomas More scholar John Guy writes: “Even if only half of Clare Asquith’s argument turns out to be correct, she’s written the most visceral, challenging, compelling book on Shakespeare’s place in history we’ve had for over twenty years.”

There are still places available at this extraordinary summer school, set in the heart of Oxford in a Benedictine Hall a few door away from the Eagle and Child pub where Tolkien and Lewis used to meet their fellow Inklings. For the first time Clare Asquith joins forces with distinguished Shakespeare scholar Peter Milward to present her exciting new interpretation of the plays, in the context of the English Reformation and the Elizabethan Renaissance that helped to shape the modern world.
