My daughter will be applying to law schools fall of '09. She is looking for a reference similar to the College Guide for information on law schools, especially west coast schools. She is a top student, in the Honors College with a 4.0 gpa,and will be studying abroad at Oxford next year. Does anyone have any advice for her? Or reference websites etc.?

Hi Marea,
Pepperdine University would be an obvious candidate (Ken Starr is the dean.) Other conservative law schools not on the west coast would be George Mason University and Regent University in Virginia, Ave Maria School of Law in Michigan and the University of Chicago. Good Hunting! |

Thank you INsage.
I will forward that list to her. How important the west coast factor (or even west of the Mississippi) will be in her decision is still in development for her. What do you know about Stanford or USC law schools? Or maybe I should ask instead, how liberal are these two? |

I don't know anything about Stanford or USC's Law schools, but since they have not distinguished themselves in conservative circles, I would be wary of them.

I would say that Stanford and USC are probably NOT conservative law schools, but that doesn't mean a conservative can't go there and make an impact. They are both fine schools and you'd have a leg up on the competition if you came out with a J.D. from there.
To add to the above list of conservative law schools, I would put Notre Dame's School of Law near the top of that list, as well as Catholic University. |
