Dr. Zmirak, It states in the new 2008-2009 edition of Choosing the Right College that a full profile on Patrick Henry College would be available at www.collegeguide.org "in the Fall." Can you narrow the window a bit and give a more precise timeframe as to when this profile will be available? Thanks!

Certainly there are some that aren't able to get the benefits out of a true liberal-arts education, and some that have no interest. But your attitude also sells many people short. Society would be better off, I believe, if more students were to gain knowledge in liberal arts. While not necessary to the performance of certain careers, a strong grounding in general studies may create more active, involved and thoughtful citizens who can think for themselves. We all benefit from having well-educated marketers, nurses, and yes, even journalists.
Should more of this education take place in high school? Certainly. But this isn't a problem of tracking students by ability, it is one of changing societal attitudes about what education is, what should be expected of our schools, and making a commitment to ALL students. We're so far away - at least where I live - from providing a complete and integrated liberal education in the pre-college years that I'm not sure I hold out much hope. High school here is about sports and other extra-curriculars, getting into college, honors, career preparation and grades. It isn't much about learning in the sense of a liberal education.
