I just finished reading this book by Hugh Mercer Curtler. I found it to be very interesting and insightful. His main idea in the book is to answer what the purpose of education is. Is it merely job training, or is it designed to free one's mind. The latter is Curtler's view, and he defends it very well in the book. I am curious to anyone else's thoughts on this book who have read it.
