There are managers that hire new representatives out of college like you without one shred of sales experience. In fact, managers like candidates like you because you have not been corrupted by another selling model or some other company's way of selling or doing business. Managers want someone who is coachable, driven and wants to succeed. My book breaks down different scenarios of where you may be in the pecking order and tells you what to do in order to get your foot in the door.

Hi, my name is Mark Trail and I am a career salesman. If you are concerned with being able to break into the sales world, maybe my story might inspire you and set aside any concerns that you have.

I have a 10th grade education from the Detroit School system, I was forced to leave home at the age of 15 and I lived on the streets for 2 1/2 years. At the age of 17 I joined the US Navy and recieved my GED while in the Navy. At the age of 21 I finished my time in the Navy and went back to Detroit where the best job I could find was as a mechanic for $5.00 per hour under the table. In 1994 I moved to Spokane WA with $5.00, two garbage bags of clothes a TV and no car...oh and a wife.

I borrowed $150.00 from my Grandmother upon my arrival and never asked for nor recieved another dime from my family. I cut my hair, got some suits from Goodwill and went door to door for two and a half days until I secured a job at a phone company as a Outside Salesman selling Long Distance phone service to businesses. I bought a $10 bicycle from Goodwill and that along with the bus and walking would allow me to get to my appointments. I even did out of town trips on Greyhound! Within 90 days I was NUMBER ONE in my region and NUMBER THREE in the company out of 350 salespeople! I was also THE ONLY SALESMAN who had NO COLLEGE. Within 6 months I was the Regional Sales Trainer and within a year I was the Regional Public Relations Manager.

Today I have owned and sold businesses, I have sold many different things and I have ALWAYS been NUMBER ONE! I am also launching my political career with a run for Congress.

My best advice to you is:

1. Work TWICE AS HARD as everyone around you! That means on Saturday you are in the office catching up and on Sunday afternoon you are in the office getting ready for the week!

2. Read AT LEAST one if not more books a week, (I used to read a book a day).

3. Remove the words "It's not my job" from your vocabulary! That means if you are in the kitchenette at work and it's a mess...CLEAN IT...don't say a word about it either. Lead by example...not by words.

4. Be the "Goto guy". Be passionate about accomplishing your mission, be it sweeping a floor or closing the biggest sale of your life!

5. Be friendly and polite to EVERYONE from the Janitor to the President of the Company! Treat EVERYONE with the utmost respect at ALL TIMES! ESPECIALLY STRANGERS! If you saw me with the President or a bum on the street...you would not be able to detect a difference in how I treat them!

6. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF...have a HUGE EGO...but NEVER LET IT SHOW...EVER!

AND MOST IMPORTANT....

7. HAVE FAITH IN GOD...because HE IS THERE AND HE LOVES YOU...my entire life is a miracle and I thank him every day for the gifts he has given me!

Smiler

Do you need help running for Congress? I offer a niche campaign rally tactic. I've memorized the Declaration of Independence and (so far) I'm the best orator out there for this document. Here's a clip of me reciting it at a tea party:
