YOUNG CONSERVATIVES OF TEXAS
University of Texas at Austin Chapter ____________________________________________ News Advisory: New Book by YCT Leader Gives Secrets of Success to Student Activism—Calls for a “Conservative Revolution” Across College Campuses Contact: Brendan Steinhauser, YCT-UT advisor, 361-772-5175 Lauren Conner, YCT-UT chairman, 337-540-3485 The book can be purchased for review at www.yct.org/books.htm and the author can be reached at bstein80@yahoo.com It was recently reviewed by TownHall.com here: http://www.townhall.com/bookclub/steinhauser.html (Austin, Texas) Brendan Steinhauser, a member of The Young Conservatives of Texas, has recently announced the publication of his book, The Conservative Revolution: How to Win the Battle for College Campuses. The book is a how-to guide for conservative students who want to build powerful political groups on their respective college campuses. It provides detailed advice on how to recruit members, raise money, lobby the legislature and gain massive media exposure. Steinhauser served as the executive director of YCT at The University of Texas at Austin. The student group made national headlines for events such as the affirmative action bake sales, the professor watchlists and rallies for the troops. With help from his fellow activists at UT and other Texas campuses, YCT became the preeminent student political group in The United States. The author hopes that his book will create a “conservative revolution” of student activism across the country, similar to the massive movements of liberals during the sixties. Steinhauser writes that, “College campuses today have become bastions of Marxism and political correctness. But conservative students are fighting tooth and nail to combat the grip leftists have on the academy.” He discusses incidents such as anti-American remarks by UT professor Robert Jensen, a journalism teacher who believes that journalists should not, and cannot, be objective. Steinhauser writes passionately about the war on terrorism, saying that it is up to young people, whom he calls, “the second greatest generation” to take up the fight for freedom and democracy in the world. He describes the intricacies of political activism, and how to take the battle from the streets to the halls of Congress. The author lobbies for passage of David Horowitz’s Academic Bill of Rights, saying that it is high time universities respect academic freedom on campuses. Steinhauser writes about the various free speech struggles conservative students face, including the censorship of political events, the theft of conservative campus journals and professors who literally refuse to allow dissenting opinions in the classroom. The Conservative Revolution is one-part manual, one-part expose and one-part a call to arms. The author believes that the political and military battles being waged today include some of the gravest threats to freedom Americans have ever faced. Only a conservative revolution that brings America back to the ideals of its founding will save the country from terrorists and tyrants abroad, and traitors at home. YCT |
